There is a public building in my community that is so poorly designed, I just have to comment.  It’s amazing this building was designed, approved, funded with tax dollars, constructed and accepted.  Apparently no one raised any objections as to its usability and fitness for its purpose.

Most people are smarter than the famous scientists of yore.  Look at what the average eighth-grader knows and understands about the world.  Certainly more than Copernicus, Galileo, and perhaps even Newton.

I’m not saying we are more intelligent or have better insight than these famous scientists.  They had a certain intuition and drive for discovery that most people lack.  But in terms of mere facts about the world, we probably know more about more things than they did.  Granted our knowlege is built upon their work.  We’ve had hundreds of years of technoligical improvements upon which to draw.  As the world’s population has grown, more knowledge has accumulated, and the collective knowledge of individuals has increased dramatically.

I’m one who likes a deal, so I find technology gadgets that are “free” after rebate.  The rebate game is not for the faint of heart.  It requires skill, patience and ambivalence.

Stop the insanity!  Television news organizations constantly use stock footage when they air a story about some topics.  You know what I mean.  I’ll mention a topic and you tell me the footage you always see whenever there’s news about that topic.  Ready?  Smoking.  You can see it can’t you?  A closeup of someone’s mouth puffing a cigarette and exhaling smoke.  Every time there’s a story about tobacco or the health problems associated with smoking, you’ll see someone’s mouth fill your TV screen.  Different stories have different people, but it’s the same camera shot.
